Nan, an old town established in the same period as  Sukhothai, and housing the sacred Phrathat Chae  Haeng Pagoda, occupies and area of 11,472,076 square kilometers with a population of 514,688 and is administratively divided into 14 Amphoes (Districts)  and 1 King Amphoes (Subdistricts): Amphoe Muang, Wiang Sa, Pua, Chiang Klang, Tha Wang Pha, Thung Chang, Mae Charim, Ban Luang, Na Noi, Na Muen, Santisuk, Bo Klua, Chalem Phrakiat Amphoe Song Khaeo and King Amphoe Phu Phiang; Located 668 kms. from Bangkok.

 How to get there

By Car

Take Bangkok-Nakhon Sawan-Phitsanulok Uttaradit-Denchai-Phrae-Nan Highway for 710 kms. 

By Bus

The 11-hour journey from Bangkok can be made on air conditioned coaches   and non-airconditioned buses originating from the Northern Bus Terminal on Bangkok’s  Kamphaeng Phet 2  Road (Tel :  2170101-5 Ext. 155 or 2799984-7 for further details).

By Rail

The State Railways of Thailand operate daily services from Bangkok’s Hualampong Railway Station, including a popular overnight sleeper to Denchai (Changwat Phrae)   and take a local bus to Nan, some 146 kms., away.  Telephone Bangkok 223-7010 or 223-3762  for further information.

By Air

Thai Airways (Tel : Bangkok / Lan Luang 280-0100-110, Silom 234-3100-19, Asia Hotel 215-2020) operates daily flights from Bangkok to Nan.
