Pilok Mine, Kanchanburi

Some 70 kms west of Thong Pha Phum no route 3272, there was once a lot of mining of wolfram and tin in the Tanaosi Mountain range marking the Thai-Burmese border. Nowadays, temperate fruit and decorative winter plants can be seen and bought at Pilok and the villages en route. Visitors are advised to take four-wheeled drive cars for travelling along this route.

Pilok, the name of a village on the hill, which was the most fruitful mine ten years ago now becomes abandoned under the coldness of mist all year round. The place is so quiet and peaceful that many agreed that the name "Pilok" might come from "Phee Lhok" (Ghost Town). Pilok is a village on the hill bordering Myanmar by Chong Hin Kong, which is the peak having beautiful scenery. From Thongphaphum District, drive uphill for about 60 kilometers taking approximately 3 hours along the Highaway No. 3272

Just been there two days ago. It's great to see where in the past used to be a prosperous town crowded with many races who came to dick mining. Temparature is definitely great,10 time better than city even it is in the remote area.
