Thaton is a little town, situated between Chiangmai and Chiangrai Provinces. In North of Thailand, 3.5 hours from Chiang Mai and about 1 hour Southern part from Mae Salong (Chiangrai) on the side of Mae Kok river. It is very relaxing town. Many travelers take a boat on Mae Kok river to Chiang Rai. Tourists take rafting along the river about 3 days 2 nights, from Chiangrai to here. Camping for 2 nights in the jungle.

 Actually, Thaton is only classified as a village, not town. It is in Mae Ai, Chiangmai.
24 Kms from Fang. Mae Kok River passes thru the village. Long-tailed boat is in service, running from Thaton to Chiangrai. Normally, the boat departs at 12:30 hrs to Chiangrai at 17:00 hrs daily. Fare is about 200 Bht each.

 Nowsadays, rafting Mae Kok is a popular activites of foreign tourists. They enjoy a sight seeing of the natural forest along of the river.

 Along the Maekok River, tourists may see hilltribes'villages e.g. Karen. You may take a ride on an elephant in the village and the forest.
