TalingChan Floating Market, Bangkok
|
| |
| Located on the canal: Khlong Chak Phra (คลองชักพระ) in front of the district office. It is opened only on weekends from about 8:30 to 18:00. If you have a chance to be here, should not miss taking a boat tour. The tour include sigth-seeing of Thai house along the river, orchid farm, temples, etc. Fees for taking a half-day boat tour is 90 Bht/adult, 50 Bht/child and free of charge for child aged below 2. Only on Sunday, there is a special boat tour: 13.00-16.00 hrs at 120 Bht/adult and 60 Bht/child: Route is the normal route plus Snake Farm (Thonburi), Wat Paknam (หลวงพ่อสด), etc.
This is a new attraction since floating markets, an old way of life of the Thai people, had vanished entirely from Bangkok for quite a long time.
Goods includes noodle, desserts, seasonal fruits, and vegetables, as well as fish are sold from boats.
Khun Pu, the pier manager was interviewed with Thai-Tour.com that he just renovated in June 08. He plan to change the outlook of the market to reflect the old Thai life-style like other old markets. We shall guide you by our photos below what is interesting here.

The real Thai life-style on the river.
rarely find anywhere in Thailand now.
It was reflected since the time Sir John Bowring, Queen Victoria’s Governor of Hong Kong, came to Bangkok in 1855 to sign the important trading treaty between Siam and England he wrote to His Sovereign ‘The Highways of Bangkok are not streets and roads but rivers and canals.” It was those comments that lead to the city being referred to as “The Venice of the East”

one and two-storey houses with a private pier for a boat park. The river has been the main communication route for people here till now.
In the past, boat consumes only human energy with a paddle. There is no much air and water pollution.

Vanda orchid farm is the major hightlight for both Thai and foreign tourists.
Orchid is for sale with a cheaper price from the farm owner. Taking a flower photo is more interesting for me.

For myself, hightlight of the trip is taking a tour boat more interesting than the market itself.
If you want to see Thailand floating market, it is not neccessary to get to Damnern Saduak floating market in Ratchburi. On the boat, you can touch the real Thai traditional life-style on the river. How they live and trave by the boat.
Here, Talingchan Floating Market is only half a hour from the center of Bangkok (Silom).

Most of tourists who missed Damnoensaduak floating market in Ratchaburi, would come here instead. It is nearer and more convenient than in Ratchaburi.
